The short version: AirWorks Solutions is a family-run HVAC and plumbing company serving Camarillo and Ventura County, California β co-founded by Kevin and Stephanie Allen in 2010, 4.9 stars across 400+ Google reviews, and 2025 Camarillo Business of the Year. Over the past year they rebuilt their digital operation in two stages β first moving to an AI content engine, then relaunching on Hydra OS in June 2026 β and the results co-founder Stephanie Allen reports are the kind most contractors don't believe until they see the receipts: paid ads turned off entirely, with net margins growing from roughly 10% to 25%.

The company
AirWorks Solutions, Inc. is the kind of business the trades are built on. Kevin Allen worked commercial HVAC in Ventura County starting in 2002; he and Stephanie co-founded the company in August 2010. Today it runs heating, air conditioning, and plumbing service across 40+ Southern California communities β Camarillo, Ventura, Thousand Oaks, Oxnard, Simi Valley, out to Malibu and Santa Barbara β licensed (CA LIC# 950716), family-run, and deliberately neither a franchise nor private-equity-owned.
The trust signals were never the problem: a 4.9-star rating across 400+ reviews, Angi Super Service awards, Nextdoor Neighborhood Fave four years running (2022β2025), and the 2025 Camarillo Business of the Year award. The problem was the same one squeezing every independent shop in a competitive SoCal market: growth was being rented, one paid click at a time, and the ad spend was eating the margin.
Stage one: fire the ad budget, hire a content engine
In August 2025, AirWorks moved off WordPress onto a rebuilt site backed by Cortex, CI Web Group's AI content and optimization engine β the system that produces a steady cadence of optimized, trade-specific articles and pages every month (the strategy we described in our field report as "content ships daily, not quarterly").
The bet: if the website could earn its own traffic β organic search, local queries, answer-engine citations β the company could stop buying it. Stephanie Allen's reported outcome from this chapter is the headline of this story: paid ads went off, and net margins grew from roughly 10% to 25%. Same trucks, same market β the growth line item just stopped being rented.
That number deserves the obvious caveat: it's a client-reported outcome, not an audited financial statement, and every market is different. But the mechanism is not mysterious. For a service company, ad spend is often the single largest discretionary cost; organic demand that compounds month over month replaces a cost that resets to zero every morning.
Stage two: the Hydra OS relaunch
In June 2026, AirWorks took the second step: relaunching on Hydra OS, CI Web Group's site platform, going live June 24. This is the most component-rich client build on the platform to date β 13 cataloged Hydra Build Components plus a set of fully custom tools (our components tour explains the catalog model). What visitors actually get:
- "What's going on at your place?" β a home issue selector that triages the visitor's problem before anyone picks up a phone
- Instant Quote Estimator and a project financing builder, so price-anxious homeowners get answers instead of bouncing
- Rebates explorer β including a dedicated SoCalGas tankless rebate intake, turning utility-program confusion into leads
- Comfort Monitoring β a subscription monitoring offering with its own product page
- Free second opinion funnel β a direct strike at the competitor-quote moment
- Learning Center, glossary, and AirWorks Academy β an education hub plus a trade-school recruiting page that works the technician-shortage problem
- Reviews engine, trust comparison table (family shop vs. franchise vs. private equity), press and careers centers
- A full city-by-service page mesh β 228 committed pages covering Ventura County communities, with conversion details like an hours-aware "open now" badge, recent-jobs social proof, exit-intent quote capture, and a sticky mobile call bar
Technically, the launch numbers are the kind AI answer engines and Google both reward: Lighthouse performance of 99 (desktop), SEO 100, and a 0.8-second largest contentful paint.
What happened at launch
The first measured launch-week result is narrow but telling: for the brand search "airworks solutions," click-through rate rose from 25.9% to 33.0% (comparing June 24β30 against the four weeks prior, re-verified July 4, 2026). In plain English: when people searched for the company by name, meaningfully more of them clicked through to the new site. Brand CTR is a leading indicator β the fuller organic story (the hyperlocal page mesh, launched in waves from early July) takes months to compound, and we'd rather report it when it's measured than project it.
What other contractors can copy
- Sequence it the way they did. Content engine first, platform rebuild second. The content flywheel funds the bigger project β in AirWorks' case, it reportedly funded it out of the retired ad budget.
- Give every anxious visitor a tool, not a phone number. Issue selector, instant quote, financing builder, second-opinion funnel β each one catches a visitor the brochure site would have lost.
- Turn your differentiators into components. AirWorks' family-vs-franchise-vs-PE comparison table converts a positioning statement into a page that ranks and persuades.
- Work the rebate angle. A dedicated utility-rebate intake is unglamorous and effective β homeowners search for the rebate, and the contractor who explains it gets the job.
- Measure before and after. The reason this story is tellable is that baselines existed: brand CTR, session and lead counts, margin history. Set yours up before you change anything (our ROI calculator is a decent scaffold).
The bottom line
AirWorks Solutions is what the AI-era playbook looks like when a real, family-run shop runs it end to end: retire the rented traffic, build owned demand with an AI content engine, then relaunch on infrastructure where the website works like an employee. The reported outcome β ads off, margins from ~10% to 25% β is the version of AI ROI that matters, because it shows up in the owner's pocket rather than a vendor's slide deck.
